Workshop
We Wrote The Books on Flow Manufacturing
The Future of Flow Manufacturing workshop is a one-day management seminar offering a practical
and thorough overview of the essential initiative of flow manufacturing . Participants will gain
insight into the foundation and latest advances in flow technology and material management, and
receive hands-on exposure to the latest advanced flow tools and methods. Both manufacturing and
service-related companies will benefit from a fresh toolkit of ideas and materials, to help introduce or
reinvigorate the flow/lean methods that are critical for future success in both the factory and the
office.
Understanding Flow Manufacturing
If you want to grow, you have to flow! The Future of Flow Manufacturing
workshop is the fastest way for both new and experienced flow/lean manufacturing
practitioners to understand all of the key ingredients and future direction for this
essential improvement strategy. Follow along using Fundamentals of Flow
Manufacturing, the book that has been c alled “ a fundamental resource for flow/lean
manu facturing” and “ the most honest and informative book on flow manufa cturing”.
Understand the factors necessary for success, and the risk factors to avoid, based on
the authors’ 12 years of flow manufa cturing experience.
Held in the foothills of Denver, the Future of Flow Manufacturing workshop is the
perfect way to either start, restart or improve your implementatio n of flow or lean
manufacturing.
About The Speaker
Richard D. Rahn is the co -author of Advanced Flow Manufacturing and
Fundamentals of Flow Manufacturing , and a leader in implemen tation, training and
software tools for flow and lean manufacturing. He has been implementing and
teaching flow and lean manufacturing since 1989, and has trained over 3,000
manufacturing professional in flow/lean manufacturing methods. A former vice -
president with the Kiran Consulting Group and the John Costanza Institute of
Technology (JCIT), he has lead implementation projects and conducted training
seminars at many of the world’s largest companies, including General Motors, John
Deere, Kodak, Boeing and Litton. He was raised in Mexico City, Mexico, and teache s
and consults in both English and Spanish.
Each participant receives the full suite of Flow Publishing books and tools, a $70
value, including:
¨ Fundamentals of Flow Manuf acturing by Richard D. Rahn and Gerard
Leone, the new sourcebook of flow manu facturing. Fundamentals has been
called a “ must-read” by the California Quality Awards Program and “ a
winner” by The Trane Company.
¨ Advanced Flow Manufacturing by Richard D. Rahn and Ali S. Kiran. The
advanced flow strategy to remove risk and uncertainty from your flow/lean
implementation.
¨ Flow Formulas , a flow manu facturing mathematical formulas training tool for
the Palm OS. Understand and practice all of the key formulas on y our PDA.
Palm unit not included!

WORKSHOP TOPICS
¨ Learn and Review Best Practices. Flow manufacturing represents best practices: the
technology of process design, practical guidelines for material and supply c hain
management, understanding and controlling process variability, uses for computer
simulation modeling, lean application development.
¨ Understand Advanced Flow. Get up to speed on the latest methods for error-proofing
and risk-proofing your flow/lean efforts. You don’t need to do everything with a pencil!
A failure to apply advanced tools can be a significant source of waste.
¨ Implement Flow in the Office. In many companies the “ low-hanging fruit” is not in the
factory, it’ s in the office . Understand how to apply the tools of flow manu facturing to
office processes, to achieve the same outstanding benefits.
¨ Experience Rapid Improvement. Most implementations take way too long. Students
will be exposed to the concept of “Quick and Easy” Rapid Improvement or Kaizen as
the proven implementation technique.
¨ Meet the Author. Richard Rahn is the co -author of the most complete books on flow
manufacturing. He knows flow manufacturing, knows manufacturin g systems, knows
business, knows your industry (probably), knows Spanish. And he’s not afraid of tough
questions.
¨ Earn APICS Professional Development Points. APICS memb ers pursuing CPIM or
CFPIM certification maintenance will earn 6 professional developme nt points.
¨ Acquire the Best Reference Materials. Useful student workbook (including all
presentation slides), Fundamentals of Flow Manufacturing , Advanced Flow
Manufacturing and Flow Formulas .
¨ Enjoy Yourself! The Future of Flow Manufacturing workshop is being held at The
Pines at Genesee meeting center in the foothills of Denver. Combine an intense learning
experience with fresh air, good food and a day in the mountains.
