Compound sentences

A compound sentence is two simple sentences connected by a comma and a coordinating conjunction.

In English there are seven coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so (FAN BOYS).

For example: He plays basketball, and his team often wins.

How about the word "because"?
