Run@rate

Jacd,
Please see my response in “Blue Highlight”.
Base my understand and my personal comments for above points:
1) If supplier should perform Run-at-Rate, it should be decided by SQE.
- For some critical parts, SQE must ask supplier provide Run-at-Rate reports even after full PPAP released.
- Purchasing guys can’t release any order except we got Run-at-Rate result from supplier.
- Also, Run-at-Rate report can’t be combine into PPAP documents.
2) Even if customer don’t need Run-at –Rate report, we still have run a 1000pcs more pilot run to verify if we have any other potential problem, then we could transfer the project to production team and close Phase 4 of APQP.
--------------------
Jacd,
Thank you very much for your questions. Yes, GM would like to make sure the PPAP level is at “Full” and “Saleable”. In that way we ensure that the parts are able to be “released to commerce” to the ultimate customer. At the time of the PPAP run the parts’ quality are still not confirmed until after testing. In that way, the PPAP run is separate from the Run-at-Rate run and should not be mixed.
You can use that PPAP run as a “practice” Run-at-Rate and/or Burst Build testing the manufacturing system. As the procedure states
“The use of practice run at rates or burst builds should be utilized to the maximum extent possible during the pre-production build events including PPAP runs in order to validate the capability of the manufacturing system and/or to develop countermeasures as may be required to meet the SDC.”
This means that the data can be used to support the ultimate manufacturing system capability. Throughout the GVDP each GM Part build (PPAP, MVB-ns and MVB-s, etc.) is an opportunity to test your manufacturing system with “Production at Rate” Build. Each one of these tests demonstrate your system capability. If documented, then the Run-at-Rate should be simple.
Hope this helps. If you have any other Run-at-Rate questions, please contact me at your convenience.

(Significant Production
Run)。
Run at Rate
C.满足SGM当前的LCR和MCR(当每日合同产能小于LCR和MCR时)

Jacd,
Please see my response in “Blue Highlight”.
Base my understand and my personal comments for above points:
1) If supplier should perform Run-at-Rate, it should be decided by SQE.
Response: Correct. We conduct Run-at-Rates with ‘critical” suppliers. We normally will not test raw material, small fasteners (screws, nuts, etc.) where these suppliers provide “off the shelf” items. We may ask for a confirmation letter from those suppliers only.
- For some critical parts, SQE must ask supplier provide Run-at-Rate reports even after full PPAP released.
Response: Correct. Run-at-Rate is a manufacturing system capacity/capability verification to our Contracted Capacity (SDC – Supplier Daily Capacity). Can the suppliers’ manufacturing systems support our Contracted Capacity every day, especially on shared resources.
- Purchasing guys can’t release any order except we got Run-at-Rate result from supplier.
Response: Not Correct. We have some suppliers that cannot “PASS” Run-at-Rate. Even those suppliers must provide parts (even if running 24 hrs./ 7 days per week with expedites) in order to meet / support our Plant requirements. This means that Purchasing / Supply Chain must release Parts’ schedules / releases to the suppliers.
- Also, Run-at-Rate report can’t be combine into PPAP documents.
Response: Correct. One may be a 300 pcs. run vs. a Contracted capacity of 1000’s pieces/day on contract. It may not correlate correctly on that limited run.
2) Even if customer don’t need Run-at –Rate report, we still have run a 1000pcs more pilot run to verify if we have any other potential problem, then we could transfer the project to production team and close Phase 4 of APQP.
Response: Sounds reasonable.
